Insomniac Games did it again… They managed to bring out that inner 7-year old who dreamt of swinging from building to building in the Big Apple but this time they managed to make me feel something different, something more. Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales is Insomniac Games’s exhilarating next-gen sequel to it’s spectacular PS4 Game of the Year candidate Marvel’s Spiderman. Taking full advantage of the PS5’s capabilities from its improved hardware to its new DualShock controller with haptic feedback that allows it to feel like you are swinging through the snow covered streets of NYC. This new story follows the journey of Miles as he discovers first hand what it’s like to be the one and only web-slinging defender while the OG Spidey, Peter Parker, is on a work vacation. Without having to spoil the game in any way, I will say that personally I think this is my Game of the Year hands down. And it’s funny because I don’t even think that this sequel is better than the original. The game is much shorter and I feel like there could have been much more to expand upon in the story if Peter was around in the city for more than he is in the story. However, this is Miles’s game and it is HIS story…the story of a new Spider-Man who represents not only the black community but also the Latino community is the perfect way to usher in the next generation of gaming. With the racial tension that has risen in our country with the killing of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and many others and of course the untimely passing of beloved actor, Chadwick Boseman, the need for positive and invigorating representation for the youth of these communities is important so that they see that they can Be Greater. MY Game of the Year, for this horrendous year will undoubtedly be Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales for being the light of hope shining through the darkness for these young boys and girls of color so they can always remember to Be Yourself too.
